Get jammers or briefs, not baggy trunks.

Baggy board shorts are for the beach, not the pool. They drag in the water, soak up chlorine, and will tire you out faster than a tight suit.

For actual lap swimming, you want something that cuts through the water. Jammers (tight shorts that go to mid-thigh) or briefs (the classic speedo) are the standard for a reason. They reduce drag, dry fast, and let you move freely.

Good materials are nylon or polyester blends with spandex—avoid cotton at all costs. Brands like Speedo, TYR, or Arena make reliable options under $50. If you’re serious, get a suit with flatlock seams so they don’t chafe.

You don’t need designer swim trunks for laps. You need a tool that works. That tool is a tight, technical swimsuit.

Future you will thank you when you’re not fighting your own shorts.
