Get the 2-quart lunch box for your salad

A 2-quart (64-ounce) lunch box is the ideal size for an adult who eats a large salad for lunch.

Here’s the thing about salad: it’s mostly air. A genuinely large lunch salad easily fills 4 to 6 cups of volume before you even add toppings. A 1-quart container holds 4 cups, which sounds like enough until you realize you’d have to pack the greens down so tight they come out bruised and sad by noon. A 1.5-quart works in a pinch, but a 2-quart gives you the breathing room to actually toss the salad without launching cherry tomatoes across the breakroom.

One important detail: go wide, not tall. You want a container that’s shallow and wide like a bowl, not a tall thermos-style jar. Wide means you can reach in with a fork, toss everything around, and eat straight out of it. Tall containers make layered salads hard to mix and awkward to eat from. Look for something Bento-box-adjacent with a locking lid and a separate compartment for dressing — that’s the real winner.

The only reason to go bigger — 3 quarts or more — is if you’re a serious volume eater or you’re adding a full chicken breast and a cup of roasted veggies on top. But for a standard big salad lunch, 2 quarts is the sweet spot.

Don’t squish your greens.
