Get the 3-cup lunch box, not the big one

For weight-loss portions, a lunch box with about 3 cups (roughly 700ml) of total capacity is the sweet spot.

That’s not an arbitrary number. It lines up with the classic plate method: half veggies, a quarter protein, a quarter carbs. 3 cups fits that comfortably and keeps you satisfied until dinner without making you miserable.

Size matters more than brand. The biggest trap is buying a giant meal-prep box because it seems like a good deal. You will fill it. Not because you’re weak — because that’s what the container tells you to do. A 5-cup box becomes a 5-cup meal. A 2-cup box leaves you starving by 3pm, and the vending machine undoes all your work.

One more thing: get a compartmentalized bento-style box, not one big empty container. The separate sections visually enforce the ratio. You can’t just dump a pound of pasta in there and call it lunch. If it’s one open space, people default to filling it with carbs first.

The container is a portion cheat code — let it do the math for you.
