Get the double-clip lunch box, not the single latch

The best lunch-box latch for surviving a backpack is the double-sided clip design, and Zojirushi’s bento boxes do it best.

Here’s the thing: most lunch boxes have one latch on the front. That’s fine for sitting on a counter, but the moment you toss it into a backpack, everything else in the bag presses on the lid. That pressure pushes the lid down, and a single front latch just pops. One good textbook landing and you’ve got rice all over your gym clothes.

Zojirushi’s bento boxes have clips on both sides that snap over a raised lip. Even with a full bag cramming down on it, the lid can’t pop because the force is shared between two latches. There’s also a rubber gasket around the whole rim, so even if something does give, nothing leaks.
