Get the full-chisel if you know what you're doing.

Otherwise, stick with low-kickback. The difference is all about speed vs. safety, and most people overestimate their chainsaw skills.

Full-chisel has square-cornered cutters that bite hard and clear chips fast. It’s the chain for experienced operators who want maximum cutting speed in softwood or dry wood. Downside: it kicks back harder, dulls fast if you hit dirt, and needs frequent sharpening. Not for beginners.

Low-kickback (usually a rounded cutter or a “safety” chain) reduces the chance of the saw jumping back at you. It cuts slower, but it’s way more forgiving. Perfect for occasional use, falling trees near houses, or anyone who hasn’t run a saw for years.

Honestly, unless you’re milling lumber or cutting all day, low-kickback will do the job. The last thing you need is a trip to the ER to save five minutes on a log.
