Get the Lasko 3300

The quietest box fan under $50 in 2025 is the Lasko 20" Premium Box Fan (model 3300).

It’s not silent — none of them are — but it runs noticeably smoother than the cheaper plastic Lasko or Holmes fans. The secret is the metal cage and slightly better motor balancing. On low speed, it’s a low hum rather than an annoying rattle. On high, it moves serious air without sounding like a jet engine. Most box fans under $50 sound like they’re about to take off. This one doesn’t.

The trade-off is that it’s a little heavier, and the metal grille can dent if you drop it. But if quiet airflow matters more than saving five bucks on the cheapest model, this is the one. Don’t bother with the white plastic Laskos — they’re louder and wobble over time.
