The Rubbermaid Brilliance is the most durable lunch box you can buy for under $20.

On paper it’s just a clear plastic container with four latches. In practice, those latches are the whole story. They’re the first thing to fail on cheap lunch boxes, and these don’t fail. The seal stays tight, the lid doesn’t warp in the dishwasher, and it’s genuinely leak-proof — not marketing-leak-proof.

You can grab the 3-cup size for around $10 and the big 4.7-cup size for about $13. Both microwave, freeze, and dishwasher fine. Plastic will scratch eventually, but it won’t hold stains or smells like cheaper brands do.
