Give the sandwich its own hard case
To keep bread from getting squished, the sandwich needs to be in a rigid container or sitting on top of the heavier stuff, not buried under it.
Think about how it actually gets crushed: the weight of other containers presses down on the bread, and bread is basically a sponge with a crust. So you’ve got two fixes, and you should use both.
First, put the sandwich in a hard-sided container — a sturdy plastic box or glass container that won’t flex. No Ziploc bags, no foil, no soft bento cups. If the container holds its shape, the bread will too.
Second, arrange the lunch box so the heavy stuff is on the bottom and the sandwich goes on top. Yogurt, drinks, full containers — those go under the sandwich. If the box is too small to stack that way, put a flat rigid barrier (like a foil-wrapped cardboard sheet or a clean plastic cutting board) directly on top of the sandwich layer to spread the weight. That works, but it’s a hack; the real fix is a solid container.
Final thought: Your sandwich shouldn’t be the lunch box’s lifting partner.
