Glass is for the fridge. Plastic is for the bag.

The best Sunday meal prep containers are rectangular glass with snap-lock lids for fridge storage, but if you’re carrying them anywhere, you want plastic.

For stacking and visibility, glass wins. Get straight-sided rectangular containers with clear lids — Pyrex Simply Store or Bayco are solid. They stack like bricks, you can see what’s inside, and they don’t stain. Skip the built-in date marker gimmick: a dry-erase mark on the lid or a piece of masking tape with the date beats any dial because you can change it every week.

The transition part is where glass falls apart. It’s heavy, and even a good snap lid can pop if you’re shoving it into a full bag. If you commute, walk, or take the bus, use plastic for anything you’re actually transporting. Rubbermaid Brilliance or Prep Naturals are leak-resistant, clear, and weigh nothing. Pack them in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack and you’re set.

So prep into glass on Sunday, then transfer the portion you’re taking into plastic on the way out. Best of both.
