Glass mousepads eat mouse feet faster.
Yes, micro-etched glass surfaces are noticeably more abrasive than cloth pads. Your mouse feet will wear down quicker — expect to replace them every few months with heavy use.
This is physics. Glass is harder than plastic, so it acts like fine sandpaper on PTFE (the standard material for mouse feet). Cloth pads are much softer and don’t cause nearly the same wear. If you enjoy the speed and consistency of glass, you accept this trade-off.
For the longest glide life on glass, use pure PTFE feet — the uncolored, uncoated ones. Brands like Corepad, Tiger Ice, or stock feet from high-end mice work best. Avoid “ceramic” or “glass” feet; they’re harder on the pad and can be noisier. UHMWPE (like Lexip) is smoother but still wears faster than PTFE on glass.
Bottom line: you can’t avoid the wear, but you can minimize it by sticking with pure PTFE and replacing them when you feel drag. The speed and glide are worth it for some, but it’s not a set-and-forget setup.
