Glass with a locking lid beats everything for meal prep

Glass containers with airtight locking lids are the best lunch box for meal prepping days in advance. Not plastic, not silicone bags — glass with a latch.

The seal is the whole game. The four-latch Snapware or Pyrex locking lids create an actual airtight lock, which keeps food fresh for 4–5 days instead of getting sad and dried out by Wednesday. Rubber-sealed lids do the same; flimsy pop-top lids do not.

Glass is also the only material that won’t slowly absorb last week’s red sauce and smell like curry forever. It goes from fridge to microwave without a second thought, and it doesn’t stain. The downside is weight and a slight break risk, but that’s the trade for food that actually tastes like itself on day four.

If you’re doing wet-and-dry stuff, like salads, get the compartment-style bento boxes with separate sealed compartments, or just use a jar for dressing. Otherwise, two or three matching glass containers with latching lids is the whole system.

Your future self will actually eat the leftovers.
