Go at sunrise.

Early morning, before 8 a.m., is the only reliably quiet window at Three Sisters Islands in summer. By 9 a.m. the parking lot fills up and it’s shoulder-to-shoulder.

The spot is small—three little islands connected by footbridges—so a few dozen people makes it feel packed. In peak season (July–August), mid-day and late afternoon are a circus. Evening is better but still crowded, because everyone wants sunset photos.

If you can’t do sunrise, aim for a weekday right when it opens (the town of Canmore doesn’t officially restrict hours, but the parking lot fills earliest). The other trick: go on a rainy morning. Tourists skip it, and you’ll have the place nearly to yourself.

That said, sunrise is genuinely beautiful there. Pull yourself out of bed.
