Go to Terrapin Point around 10am on a weekday.

You want the rainbow without the selfie sticks? Head to Terrapin Point on Goat Island. It’s the western tip, facing Bridal Veil Falls and the American Falls. Most crowds cluster at the main Observation Tower or Luna Island. Terrapin Point gives you a wide, less trampled view.

The rainbow shows up best when the sun is lower and behind you — that’s late morning, roughly 9 to 11am. Earlier and the angle isn’t right. Later and the crowds roll in. Weekdays in spring or fall are your best bet for near solitude. Summer weekends are a gamble.

I’d skip the very edge if you’re not into getting misted. Stand back a bit and you’ll see the arc clearly without fighting for rail space. Bring a light jacket — the spray is relentless even on sunny days.

If you get there at 10am and it’s a clear morning, you’ll have your rainbow and your peace. Just don’t tell everyone else.
