Go with the 50-25-25 plate rule

Pack your lunch using the same 50-25-25 plate rule you use at dinner. Half of the box is non-starchy vegetables, a quarter is protein, and a quarter is carbs. That ratio keeps blood sugar steady without making you feel like you’re eating a sad salad.

Don’t skip the carbs entirely. Low-carb doesn’t mean no-carb. You want a small portion of the right ones — brown rice, quinoa, lentils, sweet potato, or a piece of fruit. The fiber in those slows down the sugar spike. If you go zero-carb, your lunch won’t keep you full for the afternoon, and you’re more likely to raid the vending machine later.

For protein, think eggs, chicken, canned tuna, tofu, or Greek yogurt. For fat, a small handful of nuts or some avocado. Fat is good — it helps you feel full. Just portion it. Nuts are easy to eat by the handful, and suddenly that’s lunch.

Don’t overthink it. Pick one protein, two veggie colors, one small carb serving, and one fat. Pre-slice things on Sunday. And skip the juice box and sweetened drinks. That’s the fastest win.

Your future afternoon blood sugar will thank you.
