Goat Island paths are plowed but still treacherous for little kids.

It depends on the winter, but I wouldn’t bet on them being safe for a toddler.

The main paths on Goat Island (Niagara Falls State Park) do get plowed and salted — they’re serious about keeping the tourist area accessible. But here’s the thing: the mist from the falls freezes on everything, including walkways. Even after a plow, you get black ice that forms fast, especially near the water. A grown-up can handle it with care; a three-year-old who suddenly bolts is a different story.

If you go, keep the kid in a carrier or stroller with good traction, not walking on their own. Or pick a different spot for a winter walk — there are plenty of flatter, drier paved trails in the area that won’t torture your nerves.

Better to save Goat Island for a clear, dry day. Future you (and your kid’s knees) will thank you.
