Grab the 1.5-liter lunch box if you have a real appetite

Hearty eaters should get a 1.5 to 2 liter lunch box. Light eaters are fine with 1 liter.

If you actually get hungry by 3 pm, a tiny bento box will leave you staring at the vending machine. A 1.5-liter box gives you room for a sandwich, a big portion of leftovers, plus fruit and a snack. 2 liters is for people who want a full dinner-sized meal at noon. In cups, that’s about 6 to 8 cups of food.

Light eaters can do 1 liter, which is roughly 4 cups. That’s enough for a decent salad, a wrap, and a small side. If you’re not sure, go 1.2 liters — it’s the “normal adult” middle ground and still fits in most work fridges.

One practical note: the listed liter size includes all compartments, and some boxes eat up volume with dividers. If you pack a lot of separate small stuff, get the bigger one. Also, keep in mind that a 2-liter box may not fit in every mini fridge.

If you’re torn, size up. A slightly bulky lunch box beats a sad, skimpy lunch.
