Grill frozen burgers directly
Yes, you can, and it often works better than thawed.
The key is high heat and patience. Frozen patties need a hard sear to develop crust before the inside thaws and cooks. Crank your grill to medium-high or high. Throw the frozen burgers on. Don’t touch them for about 5–6 minutes. Flip once. Cook another 5–6 minutes. That’s it.
Why it works: Thawed burgers release moisture and get mushy. Frozen patties hold their shape better and the quick sear locks in juices. You lose a little bit of the deep char you’d get from a fresh-formed patty, but the convenience outweighs it for most weeknight grilling.
Just check internal temp with a thermometer. 160°F for safety. And resist the urge to press them flat — you’ll squeeze out all the good stuff.
Don’t worry about the gray ring. That’s from the ice crystals melting, not overcooking.
