Hard pads destroy mouse skates.
Yes, surface texture is the biggest factor. Soft cloth pads will barely wear any aftermarket skate, even after a year. Hard pads (glass, plastic, aluminum) will chew through skates in months, sometimes weeks.
The brand matters less than you think. Tiger Arc skates are harder PTFE (like from the factory). Corepad are slightly softer, which means they grip better but wear faster on abrasive surfaces. On a soft cloth pad, both last basically forever. On a hard pad, Corepads will wear noticeably faster than Tiger Arcs. But even Tiger Arcs won’t last as long as they would on cloth.
If you’re on a hard pad and want the skates to live, get the harder skates (Tiger Arc, hyperglides, etc.) and accept that you’ll replace them every 6-12 months. If you want smoothness over longevity, Corepads feel nicer but you’re buying a consumable.
The real answer: switch to a cloth pad if you want to stop thinking about skate wear.
