Hard-sided lunch boxes are the answer
If you’re packing whole apples or oranges, get a hard-sided lunch box with a deep compartment—soft bags and stacked containers will smash them.
The problem is physics. An apple or orange is round and takes up space. In a soft lunch bag, it becomes the squish zone whenever you put anything heavier on top—yogurt, a water bottle, a leftover container. Even a bento box with a shallow lid will press down. You need a rigid shell that won’t flex.
Look for a classic hard lunch box or a bento box with one tall compartment. That way the fruit sits in its own space, and the lid can’t compress it. The exact brand matters less than the structure. Avoid anything soft-sided if fruit is a daily thing.
Your fruit will survive the commute, and that’s the whole point.
