Heavy glass lunch boxes are worth it, unless you carry them far
Glass lunch boxes are worth the weight if you care about your food tasting like food and not like last week’s leftover plastic. That’s the honest answer.
Glass doesn’t stain, doesn’t hold smells, and doesn’t warp. You can microwave it without wondering what’s leaching into your pasta. It goes from fridge to microwave to table without a transfer, and it actually looks decent if you’re eating at your desk. Tomato sauce won’t turn it orange, and your coworkers won’t smell yesterday’s curry every time you open it.
The downside is right there in the name: weight. A glass box with food is noticeably heavier than plastic, and it’s breakable. If you carry a bag on your shoulder or bike to work, that extra pound gets old fast. And if you drop it, you’re cleaning up glass and explaining why you’re eating out today.
So the real question is how you commute. Drive or have a stable desk? Glass wins. Walk three blocks, take transit, or have a habit of juggling your bag? Stick with plastic, and just don’t microwave it.
Pick based on your back, not your guilt.
