High pressure, low flow? Clean the cartridge.

High pressure with low flow on a cartridge filter almost always means the cartridge is clogged.

That’s the whole story most of the time. The filter is doing its job — it’s catching everything — but now it’s so full that water can barely get through. The pump is still pushing, so pressure reads high on the gauge. But flow out of the return line drops to a trickle.

Fix is simple: shut off the pump, open the housing, pull the cartridge, and rinse it with a hose. If it’s been a long time or the pleats look caked on, soak it in a filter cleaner. Sometimes it’s just too far gone and you replace it. A pressure rise of 8–10 psi above clean baseline is the usual “time to clean” signal.
