Hot Rocks 1964-1971: First Rolling Stones Compilation to Go 2x Platinum (1975)

The Rolling Stones’ first compilation to hit 2x Platinum in the U.S. was Hot Rocks 1964-1971, which earned the certification on December 5, 1975. The double-LP set, released in 1971, was essentially a greatest-hits package covering their early golden era, and it became a gateway for casual fans.

By 1975, the Stones had already released Goats Head Soup and It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll, but Hot Rocks kept selling steadily. The 2x Platinum mark meant two million copies shipped. It’s now 18x Platinum, making it the band’s all-time best-selling album in the U.S.
