Hybrid mousepads wear out faster.

Yes — the coating is the weak link. A pure cloth pad will just get dirty and maybe fray at the edges, but a hybrid pad’s slick surface eventually burns through in the spot where your mouse lives. You’ll see a shiny, worn-down patch that feels slower and less consistent.

Hard pads (plastic, glass, aluminum) last basically forever unless you physically damage them. Cloth pads lose glide gradually but evenly over years. Hybrid pads give you that nice balance of speed and control — until the coating gives up, which can happen in six to twelve months depending on how aggressive your mouse feet are and how hard you press.

If you’re the type who replaces mousepads once a year anyway, hybrids are fine. But if you want something that won’t degrade noticeably, go pure hard or pure cloth. Your call.
