Hydrogen peroxide pools are a headache.
No, not really. At least not if you want a hassle-free pool that stays clean without constant babysitting.
Hydrogen peroxide will kill bacteria and oxidize contaminants, just like chlorine. The problem is that it breaks down almost immediately in sunlight. You’d need to add it constantly—multiple times a day—to keep levels effective. That gets expensive fast, and it doesn’t leave a lasting residual. Chlorine hangs around, doing its job for hours. Peroxide is more like a quick, weak shock that disappears.
There are commercial “hydrogen peroxide pool systems” out there, but almost all of them still use a tiny amount of chlorine or a UV/ozone setup. They’re marketing gimmicks. You end up spending more on peroxide and testing strips than you would on basic chlorine tablets.
If you’re trying to avoid chlorine because of skin sensitivity or smell, look into saltwater chlorinators instead. They generate chlorine on-site in a milder form, and you don’t have to store bags of the stuff. But swapping to straight hydrogen peroxide? You’ll be fighting to keep the water clear, and you’ll lose.
Save yourself the chemistry experiment.
