Ignore brands. Look for recycled nylon or Tencel.

There’s no single brand that’s the best. “Eco-friendly” in beachwear mostly means the material, and most brands are using the same few suppliers.

Three materials actually matter: recycled nylon (like Econyl or Repreve), recycled polyester, or natural fibers like Tencel (lyocell) or organic cotton. Everything else is marketing. A $120 bikini made from recycled fishing nets is great, but so is a $40 one from a fast-fashion brand that uses the same fabric — you’re just subsidizing a different marketing budget.

If you want to buy from a brand that aligns with your values, Patagonia, Outerknown, and Girlfriend Collective are solid. But don’t overthink it. Check the tag first, the logo second.

The ocean doesn’t care whose name is on the tag.
