John Rockwell on 'Love You Live': A Worthy Live Document or a Cash-In?
John Rockwell of the New York Times gave Love You Live a mildly sympathetic shrug. He called it “a decent but far from essential live album,” noting that the Stones seemed to be treading water after the tumultuous Black and Blue tour. The band’s legal troubles and Keith Richards’ heroin bust hung in the air, and the record felt less like a triumphant snapshot and more like a contractual obligation that happened to include a few hot nights.
