Keep pool chemicals separate, dry, and locked up.

Yes, but the key is separation and location — not just temperature.

Most people think “cool and dry” is enough, but the real risk is mixing. Chlorine and acid (or even different types of chlorine) can react badly. Store each chemical in its original container, tightly sealed, in a plastic tub or on a shelf where nothing can leak into another. Keep them away from metal, because fumes corrode. A locked shed or cabinet is ideal, especially if kids or pets might get in.

Temperature matters too — don’t let them freeze or bake. A consistent cool spot (40–80°F) is fine. If your shed gets super hot in summer, consider moving them indoors to a basement or garage, but still separate from household items.

The cost of a new lock and a plastic bin is way less than a chemical fire or an ER visit.
