Keep the wheels clean and tight

The most important maintenance for a slim rolling cart in a narrow kitchen is keeping the wheels clean and tight. That cart lives in a tight space where every bump matters, and wobbly or gunked-up wheels turn a useful tool into a frustrating annoyance.

Narrow galleys mean the cart is constantly brushing against cabinets, counters, and your legs. Crumbs, oil splatter, and dust build up on the wheel bearings fast. Wipe the wheels down every couple of weeks with a damp rag, and once a month check the axle bolts or screws. If they loosen, the cart gets that drunk shopping cart wobble that makes it harder to maneuver.

Also, if the cart has casters, apply a little silicone-based lubricant (not WD-40 — that attracts dirt) to keep them spinning freely. While you’re at it, wipe the shelves and frame with a mild cleaner to stop sticky residue from forming. In a narrow kitchen, you don’t want anything snagging or sticking when you’re trying to squeeze past.

A well-maintained cart is a lifesaver in a tight kitchen. Let it get sloppy, and it just becomes another obstacle.
