Keep your aluminum mousepad clean and dry.

Basically just wipe it down with a microfiber cloth every week or so.

Aluminum doesn’t rust, so oxidation isn’t really a problem—the thin oxide layer that forms is actually what protects it. Scratching comes from grit or crumbs getting caught under your mouse, so a quick wipe keeps that in check. I wouldn’t use any harsh cleaners; a little water or isopropyl alcohol is fine.

If you’re really worried about scratches, put a thin desk mat underneath. But honestly, I’ve had mine for two years and it still looks new with zero special care.

It’s way less fuss than a glass pad.
