Leave the umbrella at home.

Yes, the wind is strong enough that umbrellas are basically useless. The trade winds blow 15–25 mph most days, and they’re constant and gusty. That same wind will also mess with long telephoto lenses—expect shake, even with image stabilisation.

The direction is almost always from the northeast (easterly trades), so it’s predictable but relentless. For cameras, a monopod or a lens with good stabilisation helps. For rain, wear a hooded jacket instead. Umbrellas flip, snap, or become sails. Not worth the hassle.
