Left side for the big one.

Stand on the left (port) side of the boat for the best view of Horseshoe Falls, and the right (starboard) side for the American Falls.

The boats usually approach Horseshoe Falls first, and the left side gets you right up to the curtain of water. That’s the money shot — the massive, thundering wall of water you came for. The American Falls are off to the right side during the same approach, so if you’re on the left, you’ll see them from a distance.

If you can only pick one spot and stay put, pick the left. The American Falls are impressive but Horseshoe is the main event. That said, once the boat turns around, both sides get their moment. Just don’t stress it too much — you’ll get wet regardless of where you stand.

A poncho won’t help your camera. Keep it in a dry bag.
