Let It Be is the answer, but it's complicated.

Let It Be.

Released in May 1970, it’s the last Beatles studio album to hit stores before the band officially fell apart. Paul McCartney announced he was leaving in April of that same year, so the record came out right as the breakup was hitting the news.

The weird part: Let It Be was actually recorded before Abbey Road (1969). The band sat on it for almost a year because they weren’t happy with the mixes. So by release date, Let It Be is the final chapter. By recording date, Abbey Road was the last time they all worked together in the studio.

If you’re looking for the last new music released while they were still a functioning group, Abbey Road takes it. But if you’re answering a trivia question about “last album before the band disbanded,” it’s Let It Be.

Pick your trivia carefully.
