Let the toddler pack their own lunch
The fastest way to make lunch packing fun is to hand the toddler the job.
Kids eat what they choose. That’s not a parenting tip, it’s just how toddlers work. Set out two or three options for each category — protein, fruit, crunch, treat — and let them pick one from each. It takes two extra minutes in the morning and it buys you a much better chance of the box coming home empty. Ownership beats presentation every single time.
If you want to add a little joy without turning into a bento influencer, get one pack of cookie cutters. Cut a sandwich into a star and suddenly it’s a different food. Same with cheese slices, fruit, even tortillas. It costs nothing and toddlers genuinely think it’s magic. No need for the elaborate face arrangements that fall apart in a backpack anyway.
Keep the portions small. A picky eater is way more likely to try something if it’s not a mountain. And include the dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is doing half the work.
Your job is the grocery list, not the garnishing.
