Lighter fluid won't improve flavor
No.
Lighter fluid doesn’t add flavor. It adds chemical residue. Lump charcoal is porous and soaks that stuff up fast. You’ll taste it in the food, and not in a good way.
People think lighter fluid gives a smoky kick. It doesn’t. It gives a petroleum kick. The whole point of lump charcoal is clean, natural wood flavor. Dousing it in accelerant defeats the purpose.
If you want better flavor, start the charcoal in a chimney with newspaper. No chemicals, even heat, and you actually taste the wood. Lighter fluid is for convenience, not taste.
Use a chimney. Future food will thank you.
