How did Portishead record Dummy?

The album was recorded at State of Art and Coach House Studios in Bristol between 1993 and 1994. Barrow and Utley produced the album themselves, with Barrow creating the electronic beats and samples while Utley added live instrumentation. The production combined hip-hop breakbeats, film soundtrack samples, and Beth Gibbons’ haunting, vulnerable vocals into something entirely new.
