Tchaikovsky revised his Piano Concerto No. 1 twice — in 1879 and again in 1888

Tchaikovsky wasn’t satisfied with the premiere. He made substantial revisions in 1879 and again in 1888, altering passages for both piano and orchestra while keeping the overall structure intact. The concerto we know today is really the 1888 version — the original is a lesser-known artifact.
