How did ‘War Pigs’ develop from live performances?

According to guitarist Tony Iommi, ‘War Pigs’ originated from live jam sessions of their song ‘Warning’ at a club in Zurich, Switzerland. During one performance, Iommi played a riff that caught the band’s attention. The original lyrics were titled ‘Walpurgis’ about a witches’ sabbath, but the label pressured lyricist Geezer Butler to change the theme to an anti-war message.
