Alela Diane’s The Pirate’s Gospel was recorded by her father, Tom Menig, who was so impressed by her songwriting that he set up a home studio in Nevada City, California specifically to capture it. The album initially came out as a limited run of hand-sewn CD-Rs in brown paper sleeves — about as DIY as it gets.
