Beethoven's Grosse Fuge was booted from its own quartet by the publisher

The Grosse Fuge (Great Fugue), Op. 133, was originally the finale of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13 (Op. 130). His publisher persuaded him to write a replacement finale, and the fugue was published as a standalone work.
