What is the story behind the original album cover?
The first pressing came in a sleeve depicting a Zippo lighter, designed by graphic artists Rod Dyer and Bob Weiner. It was a hinged design that opened like an actual lighter. Subsequent releases featured a different cover — an Esther Anderson portrait of Marley smoking a spliff — and the band was credited as ‘Bob Marley and the Wailers’ rather than just ‘The Wailers.’
