Dummy's sound came from making their own samples, not borrowing them

Dummy’s distinctive sound comes from the blend of Barrow’s sampling expertise with Utley’s knowledge of unusual instruments like cimbaloms and theremins. Rather than pulling from existing records, the band created their own samples from scratch.
