When was The Art of Fugue composed?

Bach worked on The Art of Fugue from approximately 1742 until his death in 1750. The final fugue, Contrapunctus XIV, was left unfinished, breaking off mid-sentence in what many interpret as Bach’s deliberate artistic statement.
