The band initially decamped to drummer Boris Williams’ house in Devon, England to write and record demos. The final album was recorded at Outside Studios in Berkshire, England. Smith wanted to create an atmosphere conducive to the album’s dark, expansive sound, which features soaring orchestral soundscapes.
