Kendrick Lamar tracked To Pimp a Butterfly across five studios in four cities — Chalice Recording in Hollywood, Downtown in New York, House in Washington D.C., Notifi in St. Louis, and No Excuses in Santa Monica. Most of the recording and mixing happened at Dr. Dre’s No Excuses Studio.
