Look for one big latch, not two
A bento-style lunch box with a single flip latch and flexible lid, like Bentgo Kids, is your best bet for an easy-open toddler lunch.
The key is the latch. Multiple clips look nice, but they take two hands and a lot of pinching to open. Toddlers don’t have that patience or finger strength. One big latch that you flip up with a thumb is all they need.
The flexible top matters too. Kids end up just grabbing the lid and pulling, so you want something with a little give. Metal boxes or super rigid plastic lids are harder to pry open. And don’t overthink the compartments—the whole point is that they can get to the food without asking for help.
If you’re not sold on Bentgo, just test any box yourself: can you open it with one hand while holding a juice box? Then a three-year-old can probably handle it.
