Look for ruching and high-waist styles.
Yes, they exist. But “tummy control” doesn’t mean a girdle sewn into the suit—it means clever construction. Look for three things: ruching (that gathered fabric), a high-waisted bottom, or a sweetheart/ruched top that draws the eye up. All of those create the illusion without making you feel like you’re in a corset.
Brands like Miraclesuit, Spanx, and even Target’s Shade & Shore line have options that hold you in without screaming “shapewear.” Read reviews—people will tell you if it actually smooths or just claims to. Avoid anything with thin, flat fabric and no seaming; that’s basically a stiff bedsheet.
One caveat: you still have to try it on. Tummy control panels run differently per brand, and what works for one body does nothing for another.
If you hate shopping in stores, order three sizes from a place with free returns and try them on at home. Future You deserves better than a swimsuit that makes you suck it in all day.
