Low-FODMAP lunches are just a safe carb plus plain protein

Low-FODMAP lunches are simple once you stop thinking in recipes and start thinking in combinations.

The formula: a safe carb, a plain protein, and one or two low-FODMAP vegetables. Start with white rice, quinoa, or potatoes. Add grilled chicken, canned tuna, hard-boiled eggs, or firm tofu. Then pick vegetables that won’t bite back — carrots, cucumber, red bell peppers, zucchini, and spinach are usually fine. For fruit, strawberries, grapes, orange slices, or a small banana work. Remember that FODMAPs are dose-dependent, so even “safe” foods need honest portions.

The containers matter more than you’d think. A compartmentalized glass bento box or a stainless-steel tiffin keeps the rice from getting soggy and lets you reheat only the parts that need it. If you’re using a standard meal-prep container, put wet things like cucumber or dressing in a small separate container on the side. Don’t grab a sauce from the fridge — most are full of garlic and onion. A squeeze of lemon or a simple oil-and-salt dressing keeps lunch safe without turning you into a chef.

The trap isn’t the main ingredients; it’s the seasoning. Keep it plain and add flavor with a little salt, olive oil, or herbs — not spice mixes and marinades.

Your gut will thank you more than your Instagram feed.
