Lower the bar, keep the streak

The best way to maintain a location-dependent habit streak while traveling is to lower your standards dramatically.

Most people break streaks because of all-or-nothing thinking. If you can’t do your full gym routine, you skip. If you can’t meditate for 15 minutes, you skip. That’s the trap. On the road, especially Q1 with bad weather and jet lag, “good enough” is better than nothing.

For the gym: do a 10-minute bodyweight circuit in your hotel room. Push-ups, squats, lunges. No equipment needed. If there’s a hotel gym, great—but don’t rely on it. Have a zero-equipment backup plan. For meditation: two minutes of box breathing before bed counts. Seriously. Two minutes.

The streak isn’t about the quality of the workout or the depth of your meditation. It’s about the signal to your brain that you’re still that person. You’re still someone who moves their body. You’re still someone who sits quietly. That identity survives even when your routine doesn’t.

A perfect streak you skip is worse than an imperfect streak you keep.
