M-series Macs don't have an SMC to reset.

They don’t. Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3) integrated the SMC functions into the main chip, so there’s nothing to reset with a key combo.

For Intel MacBook Air (2018 or earlier, or 2020 Intel model), you reset the SMC like this:

  • Shut down. Plug in power.
  • Hold left Shift + Control + Option + Power for 7 seconds (all four keys together).
  • Release all, then press Power to start.

That’s it. Works for most battery, fan, or charging weirdness.

For M-series Macs, the equivalent fix is simpler: shut down completely, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on. That clears most power-management glitches. If something is stuck, a full shutdown (not just restart) is usually enough. No key combos
