Magnetic strips beat tiered racks for small spice collections

Magnetic strips are the better bet for a small spice collection because they turn wasted vertical wall space into usable storage, while tiered racks just rearrange the same shelf footprint.

Here’s the thing: tiered racks are fine if you have deep cabinets and a lot of jars. But for a small collection (say, 8–15 spices), you’re better off mounting a magnetic strip on the inside of a cabinet door or on a side wall. You can see every jar at a glance, no digging, and you reclaim shelf space for other stuff.

For the strip, buy one that’s at least 12 inches long and strong enough to hold metal tins. If your spice jars are plastic or glass with plastic lids, you’ll need to decant into small metal tins (like the ones from Penzeys or Amazon). That’s the only catch.

Tiered racks work best when you have a dozen or more jars and you want to keep them on a shelf, not a door. But for small collections, a strip is simpler and more satisfying. Future You will thank Future You.
